Even if you are far from sports and have never been to a fitness club, you must have seen photos of athletes with such massive belts on their stomachs. This is a fitness belt, although it is more correct to say "athletic belt". Of course, athletes do not wear it for beauty. This is the most important part of sports equipment, which has its own tasks and purpose.
The human body is a complex multifunctional mechanism, which has everything to maintain life and protect against injury and damage. If we talk about the protection of the vertebrae of the muscles of the body, which are the first to take a hit during increased physical exertion, then they are protected by stabilizing muscles. In addition to the multifid muscles, the diaphragm and the muscles of the pelvic organs, there are transverse and oblique muscles of the abdomen, which are capable of creating increased intra-abdominal pressure.
This is easy to feel if you tense your abdominal muscles. In this case, there is a feeling of squeezing, and the upper part of the body rises. If you do the same, but with a maximum breath, then the pressure will increase, and the body will rise even more. This provides the torso with a kind of vertical brace that minimizes stress on the spinal column. In fact, this is its own natural belt, which a sportsman can and should develop. However, when working with significant weights, their own protective mechanisms may not be enough, and then the weightlifter resorts to using a fitness belt.
The need for an athletic belt arises during physical activity, which creates an increased risk of injury for the back. These include:
- weighted squats;
- thrust of a sports equipment with pancakes in an inclination;
- exercises with jerks and jerks;
- army press;
- deadlift, etc.
In fact, these are basic, basic exercises, most of which are performed by all men who visit the gym and dream of having a beautiful, developed and embossed body. There is nothing to replace them, but here it is worth recalling once again that you should resort to using a belt only when the athlete already has experience with significant loads and has managed to prepare his body well for even greater, maximum loads. To create additional intra-abdominal pressure and add stability to the body, so to speak, to insure yourself.
It is very important to remember this for all weightlifters, because the belt itself does not protect the back. It only creates the conditions for the highest quality and efficient work of the body's own defenses, its natural belt.
The training belt can be wide and narrow, have thickness transitions from the back to the stomach, be made of a variety of materials and have a variety of attachments and fasteners. Universal equipment of this type is made wider in the lumbar region and tapering towards the abdomen. Powerlifters opt for wide 10 cm belts - dense and bulky, for the manufacture of which natural leather is usually used.
Fabric belts and made of leather substitute are more suitable for beginners. They are cheaper than solid leather counterparts, but less durable. In any case, it is necessary to buy such equipment only after trying it on, making sure that it fits evenly to the body.
